Srinagar, April 18 -- For the third consecutive week, authorities put Kashmir's Chief Cleric and Hurriyat Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest.
Mirwaiz lashed out at the government, alleging that his weekly detention is aimed at silencing him.
"Every Friday I am put under arbitrary house arrest! Putting pressure on me not to speak up, the ban also aims to weaken the centrality of Muslim institutions of the valley, Jama Masjid, office of the Mirwaiz, and cause collective grief to Muslims and all those who oppose this authoritarian and sectarian outlook," Mirwaiz said in a post on X.
Mirwaiz also shared a picture of police deployed outside his Nagin residence, suggesting restrictions on his movement.
