Chandigarh, Aug. 2 -- : The Italian luxury fashion house, Prada, is facing backlash from Punjabi artisans and shopkeepers for allegedly copying the traditional Punjabi Jutti design.

The Jutti, an iconic handcrafted leather shoe embedded in Punjab's rich heritage, was reportedly introduced into the international market with price amounting between Rs 50,000 to Rs 1,00,000.

The act has sparked anger among local craftsmen who say that the footwear is more than a mere fashion accessory, it's a symbol of Punjab's cultural identity commonly adorned with the phulkari embroidery and traditional attire during weddings and festivals. Local Juttis are hand crafted over a period of 2-3 days by skilled artisans and cost between Rs 400 and 2000. ...
