Punjab: 49 percent turnout in Ludhiana West bypoll
Chandigarh, June 19 -- An average 49.07 percent of 1.74 lakh registered voters exercised their franchise in the Ludhiana West by-poll on Thursday, Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab said here.
The polling began at 7 am in the morning and ended by 6 pm.
The by-poll, necessitated by the untimely demise of AAP MLA Gurpreet Gogi in January this year,
saw a multi-cornered contest, with a total of 14 candidates in the fray.
AAP has fielded Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora and Congress relied on former minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu, who had lost to Gogi in 2022 assembly elections. BJP and Shiromani Akali Dal's candidates are Jeevan Gupta and Parupkar Singh Ghumman, respectively.
