Chandigarh, Aug. 4 -- Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema today announced the establishment of a State-Level Special Fraud Detection Unit (SFDU) in Patiala to strengthen GST enforcement. The unit will use advanced technologies like AI and data analytics to detect high-value GST frauds, including circular trading, benami transactions, and fake invoicing.

The SFDU, comprising experienced tax officers, IT professionals, a Chartered Accountant, and a legal officer, will have real-time access to critical datasets like GSTN, e-way bills, and RFID analytics. Empowered under CGST/PGST Acts and IPC provisions, the unit will target suspicious GSTINs, block wrongful Input Tax Credit claims, and pursue prosecutions.
