Chandigarh, July 24 -- : The Punjab government is set to introduce a stringent law to prevent the desecration of religious texts. A 15-member select committee of the state assembly, chaired by Dr. Inderbir Nijjar, has been tasked with drafting the legislation. The committee held its inaugural meeting on July 21 to outline the process and aims to submit its report to the Assembly Speaker within six months.

To ensure a comprehensive draft, the panel will invite public suggestions through email, WhatsApp, and postal services. The modalities for submitting suggestions will be finalized in the next meeting, scheduled for Tuesday at 2:30 pm. The committee plans to convene weekly, with the possibility of forming sub-committees if needed.
