Chandigarh, Nov. 19 -- Punjab Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan has raised concern over what he calls the state's growing "one-child mindset," urging families to consider having more children to maintain demographic stability.
Speaking at an event in Kotkapura, he said Punjab is witnessing a noticeable population imbalance as more young people, often the only child in their families, move abroad, leaving behind ageing parents and a shrinking workforce.
He said that Punjabi families have embraced family-planning campaigns more rigorously than others, a trend now reflected in the state's declining youth population.
