Chandigarh, Aug. 2 -- Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema announced the withdrawal of a key option clause under the New Pension Scheme (NPS), ensuring that all NPS employees are now eligible for family or invalid pension without formal opting-in.

The decision, effective from June 27, 2025, aims to ease financial burdens on families of employees who die or become disabled during service. Previously, Clause 6 of the Finance Department's October 8, 2021, instructions required employees to choose between NPS benefits or family/invalid pension within a set timeframe, creating hardships for unaware or unable families.
