Chandigarh, Nov. 24 -- Ludhiana's Sahnewal soil shaped one of Indian cinema's most loved legends. Dharmendra, born as Dharam Singh Deol on December 8, 1935, passed away on Monday at the age of 89, leaving behind a life story rooted deeply in Punjab.
Long before he became the iconic "He-Man" of Hindi films, he was a simple boy who grew up among railway tracks, school corridors, and the warmth of village life.
Dharmendra often said that his identity belongs to Punjab. Whenever he visited Ludhiana, he made it a point to return to Sahnewal to meet the people who knew him as a child, not as a superstar.
