Chandigarh, Aug. 10 -- Punjab Minister Harpal Singh Cheema today hailed the resounding success of the state's "Bill Liao Inam Pao" initiative, a programme designed to boost tax compliance and citizen involvement.

Speaking at a press briefing, state Finance, Planning, Excise, and Taxation minister Cheema revealed that since its launch in September 2023, the scheme has seen 1,76,832 bills uploaded via the 'Mera Bill' app, leading to 5,644 winners claiming prizes totaling Rs 3,35,80,215.

The minister highlighted that the scheme has imposed penalties worth Rs 9,07,06,102 on entities violating billing norms, with Rs 7,30,92,230 already recovered, strengthening fiscal oversight. Additionally, it has spurred 135 new tax registrations, expanding...
