Chandigarh, Aug. 8 -- Contract workers of the Punjab Road Transport Corporation (PRTC) and Punbus went on strike, accusing the state government of failing to address their demands, including government's inaction on canceling the kilometer scheme bus tender and resolution of salary and other approved demands.

The striking employees have vowed to park their buses at nearby bus stands, disrupting services across the state. They have warned that if the government does not act swiftly, they will escalate the protest by blocking roads with buses. The workers had issued an ultimatum to the government, demanding action by noon today, failing which the strike was inevitable.
