Chandigarh, July 14 -- The Punjab government has elevated eight Indian Police Service (IPS) officers from the 1994 batch to the prestigious rank of Director General of Police (DGP), with two women officers among those promoted. This move has increased the total number of DGP-rank officers in the state to 22.

The promoted officers include Naresh Kumar, Ram Singh, Sudhanshu Srivastava, V. Chandrashekhar, Amardeep Singh Rai, Neerja V., and Anita Punj. All these officers were previously serving as Additional Directors General of Police (ADGPs).

As per the rules, IPS officers with 18, 25, and 30 years of service are eligible for promotion to Inspector General (IG), ADGP, and DGP ranks, respectively. According to the provisions and notification...
