Chandigarh, Sept. 1 -- Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, Member of Parliament from Sangrur, has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for an immediate relief package in the face of severe floods that have devastated Punjab, describing the situation as the worst in the past 50 years.
The state, a critical contributor to India's food reserves, has suffered significant losses in lives, property, livestock, and infrastructure.
In a letter to the Prime Minister, Hayer sought Rs 20,000 crore as interim relief to support recovery efforts, with a comprehensive package to follow after a full damage assessment.
