Chandigarh, July 14 -- In a move under Punjab's anti-begging drive, the Amritsar police have registered the first FIR against a woman for begging with children on the streets. Acting on directives from the Deputy Commissioner's office, the Ranjit Avenue police booked a woman identified as Nirmala, who was allegedly approaching vehicles with children to solicit alms.
SHO Robin Hans confirmed the FIR, stating it was filed following a formal complaint from the DC office. The woman is now under investigation, with authorities set to verify her residential status and determine whether the children with her are her own.
