Chandigarh, Nov. 24 -- In a historic first, the Punjab Legislative Assembly convened a special sitting outside Chandigarh, choosing Sri Anandpur Sahib as the venue to mark the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur.

The session began with Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains moving a special resolution honouring the ninth Sikh Guru, after which legislators from all parties were invited to speak. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann also attended the proceedings.

According to government sources, the session may witness two key announcements. The state is considering either declaring Sri Anandpur Sahib a separate district or renaming Rupnagar (Ropar). Additionally, both Amritsar and Sri Anandpur Sahib may be granted the status of "holy c...
