Chandigarh, Aug. 25 -- The Punjab unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of depriving 8,02,493 residents of their free ration entitlements under the National Food Security Act (NFSA).

Punjab BJP Working President Ashwani Sharma rejected Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's claims that the Central government is responsible, terming them unfounded.

Sharma emphasised that the NFSA, 2013, assigns state governments the task of identifying eligible beneficiaries for free rations, with the Centre supplying grains accordingly.

He questioned why the Modi government, which supports 1.5 crore Punjabis with free rations, would withhold benefits from 8 lakh individuals.
