Chandigarh, Dec. 19 -- The Punjab government has announced plans to convene a special session of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha in January to oppose proposed changes to the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said the move is aimed at raising a strong objection to what the state views as steps that could adversely affect the livelihoods of poor and working-class families.

The announcement was made by the Chief Minister through a post on the social media platform X, where he expressed concern over the Centre's decision to alter the scheme.
