Chandigarh, Aug. 29 -- Amid heavy rainfall swelling the Sutlej, Beas, Ravi, and Ujh rivers, Punjab Police have evacuated 7,689 people from flood-hit areas, according to Special Director General of Police (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla.

The evacuation was carried out in coordination with the Indian Army, Border Security Force (BSF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and civil administration.

The worst-affected districts include Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Gurdaspur, Kapurthala, Tarn Taran, Fazilka, and Ferozepur.
