Chandigarh, Sept. 2 -- The death count rose to 30 as severe flooding triggered by the raging Sutlej River affected over 3.5 lakh people spread across 1400 villages in 23 districts of Punjab, officials said today.
12 districts have been devastated.
The water level at Bhakra Dam is just 3 feet below the danger mark.
The Punjab Meteorological Department during the day issued a heavy rainfall alert for the next 36 hours, warning of further downpours across several regions.
The most affected districts include Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Moga, Pathankot, Tarn Taran, Firozpur, Hoshiarpur, Patiala, Mohali, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, and Ludhiana.
