Mohali, Aug. 4 -- A CBI special court in Punjab has sentenced five police officers, including retired SSP Bhupinderjit Singh and retired DSP Davinder Singh, to life imprisonment for their role in a 1993 fake encounter case. The officers were found guilty of murdering seven young men under IPC sections 302 (murder) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy).

The case stems from events in June 1993, when the accused allegedly kidnapped seven youths, including four Special Police Officers, from their homes in Tarn Taran. The victims were illegally detained, subjected to torture, and killed in two staged encounters on July 28, 1993, under Bhupinderjit Singh's command.
