Chandigarh, Aug. 6 -- : Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains arrived barefoot at the Golden Temple in Amritsar today morning, adhering to traditional Sikh protocol, to appear before Sri Akal Takht, the highest temporal authority of the Sikhs.
Bains is set to face the Takht shortly in response to a summons issued over a controversial event.
The issue stems from a program organized by the Punjab Language Department on July 24 in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, to commemorate the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji.
The event featured a performance by Punjabi singer Bir Singh, which included dancing and singing, sparking outrage from the Akal Takht for disrespecting Sikh sentiments.
