Chandigarh, Aug. 27 -- The Punjab Government has cancelled all leave for officers and staff deployed in flood-affected areas, directing officials to remain on the ground round-the-clock as rescue and relief operations continue at an urgent pace.

Water Resources Minister Barinder Kumar Goyal and Food & Civil Supplies Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak, who toured flood-affected districts of Pathankot and Gurdaspur on Monday, said that rescue operations were being carried out jointly by the Army, NDRF, SDRF, BSF and district administration. Around 70 people have already been evacuated safely in Gurdaspur, according to Goyal.
