Chandigarh, March 23 -- The Punjab and Haryana High Court has taken serious note of an administrative standoff in Punjab's Moga district, summoning the Deputy Commissioner and the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Baghapurana to appear in person, following allegations of coercion and irregularities in Block Samiti elections.
The court's intervention comes after SDM Babandeep Singh Walia accused Deputy Commissioner Sagar Setia of mental harassment and pressuring him to influence the outcome of the March 17 chairperson election of the Block Samiti. The proceedings were initiated on petitions filed by 15 Panchayat Samiti members, who alleged they were illegally detained and prevented from voting.
