Jalandhar, July 20 -- Fauja Singh, the 114-year-old renowned athlete, was given a final farewell with state honours in his ancestral village, Beas Pind of Jalandhar district today.
His body was kept for public viewing from 9 AM to 12:30 PM, followed by a funeral procession to the crematorium for the final rites.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Governor Gulab Chand Kataria attended the cremation to pay their respects. The Prime Minister's Office sent a condolence letter to the family. Among those present were Congress MLAs Pargat Singh, Lado Sherowalia, Sukhwinder Singh Kotli, AAP MLA Balkar Singh, and Minister Mohinder Bhagat. Singh's granddaughter was visibly emotional during the ceremony.
