Chandigarh, Dec. 10 -- A group of Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) activists has launched a campaign to remove chip-based electricity meters, beginning in the home district of Punjab's Power Minister, Sanjeev Arora. The move has intensified the ongoing standoff between farmer groups and the state power utility, Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL).

The latest incident took place in a Ludhiana village, where KMM leader Delbagh Singh supervised the removal of a smart electricity meter installed at the residence of former sarpanch Charanjit Singh. The former village head claimed that PSPCL had installed the new meter "forcibly," prompting him to seek intervention from farmer unions.
