Chandigarh, Aug. 20 -- A grocery store owner, Ravi Kumar, was fatally shot by two unidentified assailants on a motorcycle in Dera Baba Nanak, Gurdaspur district, Punjab, police said today.

The incident occurred near his home as he was about to step out of his car last evening. A social media post, purportedly by gangster Shera Mann, claimed responsibility for the killing, alleging involvement of a local police officer. However, UNI has neither independently verified the claim, nor is in a position to do so.

The attack took place when two gunmen, arriving from the direction of Gurudwara Chola Sahib, opened fire on Ravi, hitting him in the chest and damaging his car's windows. The assailants fled on a motorcycle.
