Chandigarh, March 25 -- Narain Singh Chaura, who allegedly opened fire on Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Sukhbir Singh Badal at the Golden Temple premises on December 4 last year, was released on bail by an Amritsar district court.

Badal, who was performing "Seva" at the gate of the Golden Temple, as a part of punishment by Akal Takht after he was declared "Tankhaiya", had escaped unhurt in the attack.

Chaura, who was nabbed on the spot, had been allegedly associated with the Babbar Khalsa group and was involved in extremist activities. He had served five years and was released from prison in 2018. UNI GS MR SSP
