Mumbai, Jan. 1 -- The Pune Municipal Corporation elections are witnessing the fiercest contest this time, with a record number of nominations being filed. For 165 seats in Pune, 3,179 nomination forms have been submitted, making it the highest among all municipal corporations in Maharashtra.

Mumbai follows with 2,516 candidates in the fray for 227 seats. A majority of these nominations were filed on the last day, indicating intense last-minute political activity. Other major cities have also seen stiff competition.

Nashik recorded 2,356 nominations, while Pimpri-Chinchwad received 1,993. Significant numbers were also reported from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (1,870), Solapur (1,460), and Nagpur (1,452).
