Pune, Aug. 9 -- The closure of pigeon shelters in Mumbai on court orders has sparked a heated debate, with the issue now reaching Pune. A city-based NGO today moved the Bombay High Court against the Pune Municipal Corporation's (PMC) ban on feeding pigeons in public places.

In 2023, the PMC prohibited feeding pigeons at 22 public locations within its limits, citing health risks from pigeon droppings and feathers. Violators are fined Rs 500. While the controversy in Mumbai continues, Pune's Shashwat Foundation has filed a petition challenging the local ban.
