Khliehriat, Dec. 19 -- Environmental public hearing by Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board (MSPCB) for the establishment of a cement plant at Daistong village in East Jaintia Hills district was conducted on Friday in an "atmosphere of fear and obstruction", preventing many directly affected residents from attending.
Shree Cement Limited, one of India's top three cement producers, proposed to set up its plant at Khara Siang Lum Pyrshin with a production capacity of 0.95 million tonnes per annum (TPA) of clinker and 0.99 million TPA of cement .
The project also includes a 15 MW captive power plant, a 7 MW Waste Heat Recovery System (WHRS), and diesel generator sets.
