Mumbai, June 2 -- Congress Working Committee member and senior party leader Balasaheb Thorat on Monday demanded that the Maharashtra government provide Rs 50,000 per hectare assistance to farmers whose crops have been affected by the unseasonal rains in the state.
Addressing a press conference here today, he said that Maharashtra has been hit by pre-monsoon rains and it has been raining for three consecutive weeks.
"Farmers have suffered huge losses to their fields. There has also been a problem of fodder for animals. The unseasonal rains has put farmers who were already in trouble into deeper trouble.
