Mumbai, May 27 -- Harshavardhan Sapkal, president of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee, on Tuesday demanded the state government must cut bureaucratic formalities and provide Rs 20,000 per acre as compensation to the rain-affected farmers of the state.
Addressing media, Sapkal said the recent torrential rains have added to the woes of farmers who were already grappling with a range of crises. "The heavy rains have caused massive damage to agriculture with standing crops being washed away. As nature turns erratic, the Fadnavis government in the state is proving to be a threat to farmers and the public. Farmers in distress need immediate aid," he said.
