Dhaka, Nov. 28 -- The prosecution at Bangladesh's International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has announced that it will move the country's Supreme Court, in a bid to upgrade its previous life sentence verdict for its two-ousted leaders, former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, to full capital punishment.

The ICT has announced a life imprisonment verdict for the two leaders, in connection with one of the charges tied to the July uprising last year.

The case stems from the unprecedented nationwide protest movement that erupted in early Jul, when months of economic strain, corruption allegations and clashes between security forces and demonstrators culminated in the fall of Hasina's government.
