Guwahati, Sept. 19 -- Renowned Assamese singer Zubeen Garg passed away today while surfing in the sea in Singapore, where he had travelled for a performance, said sources. He was 52 years old .
Born in Jorhat in 1972, Garg started singing when he was just three years old and rose to prominence in the early 1990s with a string of hit numbers. Over the years, he became one of Assam's most celebrated voices and also lent his talent to several Bollywood songs.
Expressing grief, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, said, "Today Assam lost one of its favourite sons. I am at a loss of words to describe what Zubeen meant for Assam. He has gone too early, this was not an age to go."The Chief Minister added that future generations will remembe...
