Mumbai, Dec. 20 -- A Mumbai special court awarded five years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 25,000 to a retired headmaster and a teacher for sexually harassing minor deaf students at a school for the deaf in 2013.

The court's decision came recently after considering the gravity and repeated nature of the abuse, with the judge stating that no leniency was justified given the circumstances.

The victims, who were students at the school, had gathered courage to approach the police after initially suffering in silence due to fear of rustication.

The case highlights the trauma faced by physically challenged students who are often vulnerable to abuse.
