Srinagar, June 20 -- J&K Police has arrested a 17 year-old boy for allegedly raping a minor who committed suicide in north Kashmir.
Police said a minor girl on the night of June 5 attempted suicide by hanging at her home and was immediately shifted to SMHS Hospital, Srinagar, for medical treatment.
"Despite efforts, she succumbed," police said, adding the victim was found to be six months pregnant at the time of the incident.
A case was registered on June 6, under sections 64 BNS, 5(J)(II) and 6 of the POCSO Act and an in-depth investigation was initiated.
