Kolkata, March 24 -- Giving a boost to the BJP, former Trinamool Congress MLA from Mekhliganj in North Bengal, Arghya Roy Pradhan, on Tuesday joined the saffron outfit in the presence of state party president Samik Bhattacharya and Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari.

According to political observers, Pradhan's induction could bolster the saffron camp in the politically crucial northern region of the state.

Alongside him, a prominent Rajbanshi leader associated with the Greater Cooch Behar movement, Banshibadan Barman, also joined the BJP. Party leaders believe that his entry could help consolidate support among sections of the Rajbanshi community, which play a key role in several constituencies in north Bengal.
