Patna, Sept. 28 -- Dr. Pratyush Kumar, a resident of Bihar, has brought laurels to the state by becoming the Chair of the World Organization of Family Doctors (Rural WONCA), a global not-for-profit professional organization representing family physicians and general practitioners from all regions of the world.

According to a release from WONCA, Kumar is the first from India and South Asia to lead the organization, succeeding the outgoing Chair, Professor Bruce Chater of Australia.

Kumar's appointment to the post is a significant milestone, bringing a new and vital perspective from India to the global leadership of rural health.

Kumar is a physician and diabetologist with practices in both Patna and East Champaran, India.
