Chandigarh, Jan. 2 -- A controversy has emerged in Punjab's Amritsar after a postal assistant, originally from Delhi, alleged that he was pressured to read and speak Punjabi while on duty at a local post office.

The incident, which occurred on December 30, came to light after a video related to the confrontation surfaced on social media and went viral.

The postal assistant, identified as Vishal Singh, said he has been posted at the Amritsar post office for the past four years and is fluent in Hindi and English. He claimed that a local youth visiting the post office insisted that he use Punjabi, arguing that anyone working in Punjab should know the language.
