Rio De JaneiroI, Feb. 19 -- Portuguese manager Vasco Matos has reached an agreement to take charge of Botafogo on a two-year deal, according to media reports in Brazil.

The Rio de Janeiro club agreed to pay one million euros to activate a release clause in the 44-year-old's contract with Portuguese top-flight club Santa Clara, news outlet O Globo reported on Tuesday.

It added that only "bureaucratic details" stood in the way of Matos signing a contract that runs until December 2026.

Botafogo has been without a manager since Artur Jorge departed to join Qatar's Al-Rayyan in January.
