Vatican City, March 23 -- Pope Francis, who is continuing to recover from double pneumonia, will be discharged from Rome's Gemelli hospital on Sunday, one of his doctors and the director of the hospital's medical-surgical department, Sergio Alfieri, has said.

"Let's start with the good news that the whole world has been waiting for: Tomorrow the pope will be discharged and will return to the Casa Santa Marta [his residence in Vatican City]," Alfieri told a briefing at Gemelli on Saturday.

The 88-year-old pontiff was prescribed a therapy, the doctor added.
