Kolkata, April 23 -- Barring stray incidents of violence, the first phase of West Bengal Assembly elections were largely peaceful on Thursday, the state Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Manoj Kumar Agarwal said.
The first phase covered 152 Assembly constituencies spread across 16 districts.
Addressing a press conference, Agarwal said people cast their votes without fear and expressed satisfaction with the polling arrangements. He said the feedback from polling stations suggested voters were largely pleased with how the process was conducted.
