Chennai, April 23 -- The single phase polling to elect the new 234-member 17th Tamil Nadu Legislative Assemby came to and end on Thursday evening and passed off peacefully after witnessing a record all time high turn out of 82.24 per cent and is all set to create history crossing the 90 per cent mark for the first time ever in the annals of TN's electoral politics.

The polling which commenced at 79,064 booths at 7.00 AM in the morning, ended at 6.00 PM.

No major untoward incident was reported from any part of the states and the polling process that decided the fate of 4,032 candidates--also an all time high--including 443 women, ended peacefully and were sealed in EVMs.
