New Delhi, Feb. 17 -- The Supreme Court on Tuesday noted that political parties in the country must foster fraternity, adding that they should fight elections based on mutual respect.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant, Justices BV Nagarathna and Joymalya Bagchi noted that 'Constitutionally unbecoming speech' by people holding Constitutional offices.

The bench was hearing the petition filed by nine individuals in the wake of recent speeches by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
