Kolkata, Oct. 18 -- Armed with a judicial order, Kolkata Police today cracked down on the banned firecrackers across the city and its neighbourhood with the latest arrest of a vendor from Esplanade while he was transporting over 600 kg of explosives, official sources said.

The Calcutta High Court responding to a PIL directed the state government to submit a report on the compliance with earlier directives to curb air and sound pollution during festivals of Kali Puja, Diwali and Chhath beginning October 20.
