Kolkata, July 13 -- The city police have set up a nine-member high-level Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the alleged rape of a girl by a second-year student in the Indian Institute of Management-Calcutta, officials said today. The suspected student, identified as Mahaveer Toppannvar alias Parmanand Jain, was arrested on Friday after the Haridevpur Police station swung into action following an FIR (first information report) lodged by the victim girl. She alleged she was called by the accused for a counselling session in the institute on Friday noon and she was given soft drink and food.
