Kabul, Aug. 5 -- Police have arrested seven individuals on charges of involvement in drug smuggling and selling the contraband to locals in the eastern Afghanistan Laghman province, said a news release of the provincial police office on Tuesday.

The alleged smugglers were smuggling and selling a variety of illegal drugs, including methamphetamine, stimulant tablets locally known as "tablet K," the news release said.

All the arrested would be handed over to the judiciary after preliminary investigation, the news release added.

In similar operations, police discovered 75 kg of opium poppy in the northern Takhar province and took into custody an individual on the charge of attempting to smuggle the contraband over the weekend.
