New Delhi, Aug. 28 -- On the 11th anniversary of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), Home Minister Amit Shah today lauded the initiative as a historic step in empowering millions of Indians, especially poor, women, farmers, and marginalized communities, by bringing them into the formal banking system.

"Exactly 11 years ago from today, Prime Minister Modi launched the world's largest financial inclusion initiative in history, the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, aimed at empowering the poor, women, farmers and the marginalized," Shah said on X.

He said, "Through the 11 years of Jan Dhan, a historic effort was made to connect a large section of the country to banking facilities, which had been deprived of it for decades".
