Lucknow, Dec. 4 -- Samajwadi Party National President Akhilesh Yadav, while alleging that many of the Chief Minister's close associates and officials are linked with the codeine cough syrup syndicate, has demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should take cognizance of the issue and the central government take strict action.

"This issue is linked to the Prime Minister's parliamentary constituency, where 38 cases have been filed so far, so it is the moral duty of the local MP to take action against the culprits", he said here in a statement on Thursday.
