Rameswaram, April 6 -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday had darshan and offered special prayers at the famous Sri Ramanathaswamy Temple here on the auspicious occasion of Sri Rama Navami.

Mr Modi, who arrived from Sri Lanka and inaugurated the new Pamban Bridge and a new train service, later visited the temple and offered special darshan.

He was accorded a 'Poorna Kumbh' reception at the Temple entrance by the priests and offered garland.

Mr Modi went round the temple, which has a special significance to him, and also offered special pujas to the Lord.

He was accompanied by Union and State Ministers, top BJP leaders.

Mr Modi spent about half an hour at the temple. UNI GV 1405
