Mumbai, Sept. 21 -- Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee President Harshvardhan Sapkal today said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is taking credit for reducing GST rates, must also take responsibility for the "loot" carried out for eight years due to increased rates.

Sapkal said that the Prime Minister's address to the nation once again showed his habit of taking credit. He said it was Modi who had introduced GST in 2017 with "excessively high rates," causing harassment and "massive financial exploitation" of industries, traders, and ordinary citizens.

Sapkal noted that over the past eight years, GST collections have doubled to Rs 22 lakh crore, with the greatest burden falling on consumers and small businesses.
